Dear Minister Champagne,

I just learned something concerning that has compelled me to write to you today.

What I didn’t know is that, in 2017, the federal government made a commitment to support mental health and addictions services through a significant investment of $5 billion. What I also learned is that the funding expires next year. If that funding is not renewed in Budget 2026, mental health services might disappear.

I just can’t stay quiet about this. My family and I count on the services this funding has made possible. As the Minister responsible for creating the next budget, you must include new funding to ensure services continue.

For the past 10 years, the funding has helped youth get care earlier and has made services available for people who can’t afford to pay for private care. It has helped people manage their stress, depression, and burnout so they can keep working and provide for their families. And for the most vulnerable people in my community, it has kept them out of crisis and out of hospital. If the funding expires, too many of us will lose the care we need.

I am hoping you will renew this essential funding in Budget 2026.
